Grenzeloze liefde - Made in Japan

Documentary, 1996, 84 min.

In Away matches, first part of a triptych, filmmaker Puck de Leeuw portrays one Flemish woman and two Dutch women who fell in love with Japanese men and decided to follow their lovers back home. There is a Japanese proverb that says: 'The nail that sticks out has to be hammered in', as the women find out in reality. However gracefully they pour tea, it is never graceful enough for their new relatives. Each of them regularly asks herself why she adapted so entirely to the lifestyle of her husband. Puck de Leeuw was given the Zapper, the audience award for best documentary at the 1996 International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam.
