Mensen van 2000

Short documentary, 1996, 54 min.

People of 2000 is made as a contemporary counterpart to the film Tomorrow's People that Kees Brusse made in 1964 and in which he interviewed thirteen young people about their lives and their dreams. Gilles Frenken portrayed seven young people between 16 and 23 who all live, work or study in Amsterdam. The film is set on one day in the summer of 1996, when the Dutch soccer team played a European Cup game in England. Against this background, the young people talk about love, sex, parents, housing, racism and the future. Despite the difference in background, the seven have a lot in common. Maybe that is what can be called the spirit of the times.
