A Skin Too Few - The Days of Nick Drake

Short documentary, 2000, 48 min.

On a chilly autumn morning in 1974 the British singer and lyricist Nick Drake (1948-1974) was found dead. Twenty years later, Drake has become a cult figure. The media encourages the worship with headlines like 'the cultness of the cultnesses' and his music is used in feature films and commercials. In the documentary, Berkvens visits the tranquil landscapes, spots, people and music from Nick Drake's life in an attempt to understand the tragedy of this loner. Witnesses, including from his sister, describe Drake as a lonely kid who hardly left his parents' home and for whom contact with others was a great effort. An honest artist who would not cope with the confrontation with his audience, but gradually became bitter as he sought for recognition.
