Hemels bewegen

Short documentary, 2010, 55 min.

Documentary about a group of disabled people crossing the Himalayas in a month by bike. More than six hundred miles, from Lhasa to Kathmandu, in a handbike across mountain passes of over three miles high. Filmmaker Wout Conijn focuses on three participants in particular. Twenty-something Roelof sits in a wheelchair, being paraplegic after a drunken fall on holiday. Thirty-something Bas became completely paralysed as a twenty-year-old soldier during a drill, and bit by bit learned to move again. Evert, in his fifties now and accompanied by his wife Matty, suffered severe brain damage in a car crash and has difficulty walking. Conijn follows their progress without comment, from the optimistic first days to the arduous final metres. Furthermore, in interviews the three men explain how they suffered their injuries and what the trip means to them.
