Noorderlicht - Levend fossiel

Short documentary, 1999, 25 min.

What's it like for a scientist to find a fish that has been extinct for two hundred million years and which is only known from a few scattered fossils? The discovery leads to excitement and euphoria, also among fellow experts. After the find in 1938 of the first coelacanth, more of these unusual sea animals have been fished up. Further investigation is hampered because the animals cannot be kept alive at sea level, being used to living under pressure 200 metres down.
