The Forbidden Quest

Feature film, 1993, 74 min.

The Forbidden Quest is set in 1941. In that year, old ship's carpenter J.C. Sullivan tells of his experiences on board the MS Hollandia during a top secret expedition to the South Pole in 1905. To back up his incredible story, Sullivan shows the films which were made during the journey by a cameraman who went along. These fragments, authentic footage made at the turn of the century by cameramen such as Frank Hurley and Herbert
Ponting at the North and South Poles, was found by director Peter Delpeut in the collection of the Netherlands Film Museum and used in the film with his own scenario. He allowed himself to be inspired by writers such as Edgar Allen Poe and Jules Verne.
